A waste activated sludge system designed to treat wastewater from a food processing plant required several plant upgrades. As part of the upgrades, a chemical metering system used for phosphorous removal (precipitation) required upgrading to accommodate a higher wastewater flow and phosphorous loading. The work involved, preparing process and instrumentation diagrams (PIDs) to operate the system with a SCADA system, preparing technical specifications for a large fiberglass ferric chloride storage tank, selection and specification of chemical metering pumps, flow meters, equipment pre-purchasing and construction management. The pumps where flow paced which means they were designed to vary the amount of ferric chloride dispensed into the water based on the water flow.
